Team Australia tops all three major trophy categories after a brilliant second day at the ISDE in Slovakia.
Team USA may be a contender for its first ISDE World Trophy win, but after Day 2 of the 2015 International Six Days Enduro (ISDE) in Kosice, Slovakia, it finds itself in the role of hunter rather than hunted.
Team Australia vaulted past the Americans to take over the lead in the World Trophy competition. In fact, it was clearly Australia’s day, as the country took over the lead in World Trophy, maintained its lead in the Junior World Trophy and Women’s World Trophy categories.
All Team USA lacked in the World Trophy battle was consistency. An up-and-down day saw top American Kailub Russell win the opening test of the day, but his teammates suffered setbacks. For example. Taylor Robert crashed three times in one section and lost nearly 30 seconds. Russell had a couple of bad moments as well, although he managed to remain atop the individual leaderboard and in the E1 class, beating back a challenge by Australia’s Daniel Milner. Team USA’s Ryan Sipes had another good day, and he is currently the overall leader in the E2 class.
But what once was a fair overall lead of 1 minute and 14 seconds by Team USA is now an 8-second deficit to Australia. Defending World Trophy Champion France is still third, failing to gain any ground on the top two countries today but moving farther ahead of fourth-placed Spain.
Enduro 3 class leader, Daniel Sanders, led the Australia’s Junior World Trophy team to a second day atop the category standings, as the Aussies built their lead up to over 6 minutes ahead of current runner-up Sweden. Meanwhile, Team USA edged closer to France in the battle for third I the Junior World Trophy standings.
Australia’s Tayla Jones once again dominated the Women’s World Trophy category, and thanks to excellent performances by her teammates, Jessica Gardiner and Jemma Wilson, the Australian ladies now enjoy a 15-minute lead over France and Sweden.
Tomorrow’s route will run in the opposite direction over the trails used during Days 1 and 2, but with a new special test thrown into the mix.
