The following is from MX Sports, regarding the Area Qualifier and Regional Championship Dates for the 2018 Rocky Mountain ATV/MC AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship:

MORGANTOWN, W.Va (December 8, 2017)–The 2017 racing season has come to a close, and MX Sports, producer of the Rocky Mountain ATV/MC AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship, presented by Lucas Oil, is pleased to announce the schedule for the upcoming 2018 Area Qualifiers and Regional Championships.

The qualifying program takes place in 35 different states throughout the country, starting with the 58 Area Qualifiers that begin mid-February and run through the end of May. The 13 Regional Championships will run in eight major geographical regions throughout the United States, taking place in late May and through the month of June.

“One of the hardest things that we do at MX Sports is organize the Area Qualifier and Regional Championship schedule,” said MX Sports Director, Tim Cotter. “There are so many qualified and deserving race tracks in our country, but only a few events to go around. We are honored to be associated with these great tracks this year. The 2018 schedule will feature many of the traditional Area Qualifier and Regional Championship tracks, with the addition of some newcomers as well.”

The Area Qualifiers serve as the first step in qualifying for the world’s largest and most prestigious amateur motocross championship. The Regional Championships then serve as the next step to seed riders into the National Championship. Only riders who finish in a qualifying position at a Regional Championship are eligible to race the National the week of July 30 through August 4.

“The AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship continues to be the most prestigious amateur motocross program in the world,” said AMA Motocross Manager, Ricky Rickords. “We have diligently worked with our promoting partner, MX Sports, to ensure the schedule features the best tracks in the country when it comes to amateur racing. We will now shift our attention to working with each organizer to provide the best race experience possible at each of these events.”

This year’s lineup once again includes the many National-caliber tracks that have become such an integral part of the Road to Loretta’s. From the historic Unadilla MX and High Point Raceway in the Northeast, to Washougal in the Northwest, these National tracks offer amateur racers a chance to race on the same track as professionals in the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross circuit. The tour will also return to many other favorites such as the Southeast’s Muddy Creek Raceway, RedBud MX in the Mid-East and Thunder Valley MX Park in the South Central region. The much anticipated Glen Helen Raceway Park facility returns to the schedule for the Mid-West Region, in addition to Spring Creek MX Park hosting the North Central Amateur Regional Championship.

Brand new additions to the 2018 Area Qualifier schedule include New York’s Walden Motocross and MX 207 Maine in the Northeast. Further west, Noise Park in Idaho and Eugene MX in Oregon are also joining the lineup. Bowers MX will also offer west Texas riders a track closer to home, while Kentucky’s Echo Valley and Hawaii’s Maui Motocross are excited to welcome Loretta Lynn MX riders for their first Area Qualifier.

After hosting several successful Area Qualifiers, Horn Rapids Motorsports Complex will be home to the Northwest Youth and Amateur Regional Championship. Perhaps the biggest announcement comes with the addition of WW Motocross Park in Jacksonville, Florida who will host the Southeast Amateur Regional Championship after a successful MXGP event this past fall.

Dunlop Tires Talks Up Loretta Lynn’s Title Sweep https://www.dirtbikes.com/dunlop-tires-loretta-lynns/ Wed, 16 Aug 2017 22:44:19 +0000 http://www.dirtbikes.com/?p=191946 Dunlop tires were mounted on every motorcycle that won a National title at the 36th Annual Rocky Mountain ATV/MC Amateur National Motocross Championship.

The following is from Dunlop Tires:

Buffalo, NY--Riders who chose to compete on Dunlop tires delivered a stunning sweep of all 36 championships at this year’s prestigious AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship at Loretta Lynn Ranch in Hurricane Mills, TN. Dunlop’s Geomax® MX3S and new MX12 were the popular choices among the winners.

Unlike some previous years, track conditions were pristine and the few rain showers that blew through helped to keep the dust down. The all-new Geomax MX12 sand/mud tire made its Loretta’s debut at this year’s event, and proved to be the advantage riders were looking for during the early motos when the track was deeply tilled—especially off the line as MX12 riders nailed a ton of holeshots. This immediate success of the MX12 early in the week spoke volumes about how well this tire was received by the racers—especially at an event as important as this one. When track conditions changed and became more hard packed and rougher, the intermediate MX3S delivered the traction needed to help amass the championship sweep.

Four championships were won by Team Dunlop Elite riders, including Casey Cochran, Haiden Deegan, Ryder DiFrancesco, and Jett Reynolds. Dunlop Elite alumni grabbed three titles, including two for Garrett Marchbanks, and one for Hannah Hodges. Standout riders who won special awards were all Dunlop riders as well, including Ty Masterpool who won the Youth Rider of the Year award, Marchbanks who took the Amateur rider of the year trophy, and Vet Rider of the Year Mike Brown. The prestigious AMA Horizon Award, now dedicated to the late Nicky Hayden, was given to the rider who shows the most promise as they prepare to enter the professional ranks, and it went to Justin Cooper—who made his last amateur appearance at Loretta’s before making his professional racing debut with Star Racing Yamaha this coming weekend at Unadilla. We wish Cooper the best of luck.

“It has been a personal goal of mine to achieve a sweep for Dunlop Motorcycle Tires at Loretta’s since I started with the company four years ago,” said Rob Fox, Amateur Motocross Support Manager. “We felt very honored that so many riders tried the brand-new MX12, and trusted us enough to rely on Dunlop tires to help achieve their goals.”

Dunlop Tires would like to thank all the riders who competed at Loretta’s this year as we know merely qualifying for this major event is a huge accomplishment for the riders and their families.

The 36th Annual Rocky Mountain ATV/MC AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship, presented by Lucas Oil, came to a conclusion August 5, with the fifth and final day of racing in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee. The last 14 races contested on the distinguished facility at the Loretta Lynn Ranch, with a total of 35 National Championships bestowed.

Racing action kicked off at 7:30 a.m. with chilly conditions, Palmer Neely lead the early portion of the race with championship contender, Jalek Swoll, inching closer until a mechanical issue took him out of the race. Mason Gonzales capitalized on Swoll’s misfortune and quickly made the pass on Neely for the lead. Gonzales’ near perfect performance captured him the Schoolboy 1 (12-16) B/C national title.

The 65 (10-11) Limited class championship remained undecided as Daxton Bennick, Haiden Deegan and Casey Cohran all had their eyes set on it. Although Bennick lead most of the third moto, Cohran ended up crossing the line first after Bennick wrecked with only two laps to go.

Carter Halpain grabbed the final 450 B Bell Helmets Holeshot Award and continued leading from start to finish. Brock Papi and Marco Cannella settled into second and third. Throughout the course of the moto the results stayed the same on timing and scoring, but multiple position exchanges occurred on other parts of the track between Papi and Cannella. Even with the final win, Halpain couldn’t top Papi in the overall standings and Papi was awarded with the title.

Mason Meyer rounded the first turn in the lead as the 450 C class jumped off the line. Meyer exchanged the lead with Wesley Allen on the second lap and Allen never looked back. Devon Bates settled into second and Matthew Kretzler made a last lap pass for the final position on the box.

Chance Hymas and Ryder DiFrancesco came into the third moto tied in the 85cc (9-11) Limited championship standings. Although he didn’t get the best start, DiFrancesco moved into the lead by the conclusion of the first lap. Hymas followed right behind him but made a costly tip-over and couldn’t catch back up. DiFrancesco snagged the class championship and didn’t finish off the podium during his time at the Ranch.

In his sixth and final moto of the week, Ryan Weatherby left on a high, where he lead every lap from start to finish in the Senior (45+) class to take his first win of week after a few solid podium finishes. Saturday’s finale showcased some of the most exciting battles of the week, which included the 250 C Jr. (12-17) Limited class where Rene Rodriguez passed for the lead on the last lap to go 1-1-1 for the title.

Scott Meshey, Tanner Basso and Carter Gordon filled the College (18-24) class podium. Although Basso never won a race this week, his consistency paid off and he ended up taking the national championship. Mike Brown was awarded his second title of the week in the Junior (25+) class, and he leaves the ranch with a total of six moto victories.

The season finale for the Onsia Sound Art Women’s Professional Motocross (WMX) series was held in conjunction with the AMA Amateur National. The world’s fastest females closed out the weeklong event with Kylie Fasnacht making the pass for the overall win in the last turn of the race. Hannah Hodges and Shelby Rolen rounded out the overall podium.

The 36th Annual Rocky Mountain ATV/MC AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship, presented by Lucas Oil, crowned the first 21 National Champions Friday, August 4, as the second to last day of racing took place in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee. The historic Loretta Lynn Ranch presented challenging track conditions in the morning after overnight rain, but the typical hot and humid conditions that the AMA Amateur National is known for graced the facility as the day progressed.

The fourth day of racing kicked off with the remainder of the second motos. In the Junior (25+) division, Mike Brown took home the moto win and control of the championship standings. After missing the top-five in the first 125 (12-16) B/C moto, Palmer Neely had his eyes set on landing a podium finish and took the second moto victory with Carter Biese and Kyson Palmer in second and third.

The first National title of 2017 was presented to Ezra Hastings in the 450 B Limited class after his trio of second place finishes, while Drew Adams went 1-1-1 for the 51cc (7-8) Limited win. Ryder Ellis topped the charts in 51cc (4-6) Limited, and Aiden Biersteker claimed gold in 51cc (4-6) Special Limited. Landon Palmer snagged the last 50 class moto win in the 51cc (4-6) Shaft Drive Limited Division.

Jazzmyn Canfield was well on her way to earning another title until tragedy struck and her bike blew up on the last lap. Tayler Allred’s impressive performance throughout the week set her up to steal the championship away in the highly-contested Girls (11-16) class.

Challen Tennant grabbed the Bell Helmets Holeshot Award in the third 250 A moto, but it didn’t take long for Justin Cooper to find himself in the lead. Julio Zambrano was sitting in second at the conclusion of the first lap – his best start to date after a DNF and 25th place finish earlier in the week. Jordan Bailey moved into the second-place position halfway through the race, but couldn’t catch Cooper who crossed the line victorious earning the title. Bailey and Joey Crown rounded out the overall podium and the top-three championship standings.

The esteemed 250 B competed in their second moto where Garrett Marchbanks, Joe Shimoda and Derek Drake were all wheel-to-wheel as they rounded the first turn. Marchbanks emerged with the early lead as they jumped through the Go Pro 10 Commandments and never looked back. Meanwhile, the racing action was only heating up behind him. By the end of the first lap, Marchbanks, Drake and Hammaker had settled into the podium positions where they rode that way until the checkered flag. With a 2-1-1 moto tally, Marchbanks was awarded the National Championship.

Once the gate dropped for Open Pro Sport, Justin Cooper was buried mid-pack, while Dylan Greer, Mitchell Falk and Joey Crown saw a clear track in front of them. While running in second, Crown went over the bars across a breaking bump opening the door for Jake Masterpool to secure the runner-up position. Masterpool used this momentum to make the pass for the lead in the Cometic turn just before the Go Pro 10 Commandments. Unfortunately, the same turn that brought Masterpool good luck, turned around to backfire the very next lap where he tipped over and lost the lead back to Greer. Just two laps later another lead change occurred and Jordan Bailey moved into first across the tunnel jump. Bailey ended up taking the moto win followed by Greer. Cooper worked his way from 18th to third, which vaulted him to the top of the championship standings.

Rene Rodriguez redeemed himself with a 250 C class win after a rough week, but Stockton Stinebaugh returned to the center of the box for the class championship, after claiming the 250 C title earlier in the day. Jett Reynolds sat 1-1 coming into the final moto of the Mini Sr. 1 class, but suffered from a disappointing DNF in the third moto. Matthew Leblanc ended Reynolds championship success and stole the title away.

Ty Masterpool took the Supermini 2 (13-16) championship after rebounding from an unfavorable start in the last moto. Even with a 23-second win in the Masters (50+) class for Barry Carsten, it wasn’t enough to top John Grewe in the championship standings. The fastest ladies in motocross took to the track for their third moto to end the day, where Jordan Jarvis made a last lap pass for the moto win over Hannah Hodges. Jarvis’ DNF in the first moto took her out of championship contention, and Hodges was awarded the shield.

The historic Loretta Lynn Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee continued to host the second set of motos today Thursday, August 3. There were a total of 22 gate drops for the third straight day of racing that took place during the 36th Annual Rocky Mountain ATV/MC AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship, presented by Lucas Oil.

Derek Drake got off to a much better start in the second 250 B Limited moto holeshot and lead every lap from start to finish. Parker Mashburn settled into a second-place pace, while Marcus Phelps worked his way from eighth to round out the overall podium.

The 85 (9-12) class witnessed Gavin Powers rocketing off the line to earn the Bell Helmets Holeshot Award, but Jett Reynolds wasted no time stealing the top spot. Reynolds attempted to pull away from his competition, but felt immediate pressure from Matthew Leblanc who was on his rear wheel through the opening lap. As the race progressed, so did Reynolds’ time difference until the last lap when Leblanc made a last-minute charge and crossed the finish a mere two seconds behind Reynolds. Class rookie, Ryder DiFrancesco, rode a consistent race in third.

Justin Cooper saw a much better start in the second 250 A moto than the first and made a quick pass on Jayce Pennington for the lead. Enzo Lopes followed Cooper passed Pennington. Cooper was trying to push a lead, but Lopes kept him honest. The battle continued through the rest of the moto, with Lopes trying everything in his power to get by Cooper. Fortunately for Cooper, Lopes struggled to get around the lapped riders on the last lap giving him a little bit of breathing room as he crossed the line in first. Lopes and Pennington took the last two spots on the box.

John Grewe claimed his second Masters (50+) class win of the week, while Jordan Jarvis stood atop of the podium in Women (14+) Amateur after a disappointing DNF in the first moto. Drew Adams put it all together to secure another 51cc (7-8) Limited win. Ty Masterpool extended his streak with another win in the Supermini 2 (13-16) class. Wesley Allen took top honors in 450 C.

When the gate dropped for the 450 B division, Austin Watling shot out of the gate and lead the way until lap three when Brock Papi made the pass. Papi, who finished third in the first moto, was charging after he realized the moto 1 winner, Carter Halpain, went down on the first lap. Carson Brown was struck with bad luck with a mechanical issue which forced him to end his race early. Papi, Marco Cannella and Watling filled the podium, and Halpain finished just inside the top-five from a 33rd place start.

Supermini 1 (12-15) saw Dilan Schwartz emerge through corner first, where he grabbed the Bell Helmets Holeshot Award. Carson Mumford and Ty Masterpool were in tow, with other threatening competitors inside the top-five as well. With the battle for second heating up, Schwartz was able to slip away. Once Masterpool got into second he began chipping away at the time difference to first which didn’t take long. Schwartz bobbled in the Thor sweeper turn, but saved it and stole the win with Masterpool placing second.

The 65cc (7-9) Limited class was dominated by Kade Johnson – who now sits ranked first heading into the final moto. Enzo Temmerman spent the entire moto recovering from an unfavorable start to finish second, and Evan Woody held onto third.
Racing is set to continue tomorrow, Friday, August 4, and RacerTV continues with live streaming coverage beginning at 8:30 a.m. CDT/9:30 a.m. EST. The 36th Annual Rocky Mountain ATV/MC AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship, presented by Lucas Oil, hosted the second day of racing at the historic Loretta Lynn Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, on Tuesday, as the fastest amateur racers continued their quest for a national title.

The 65 (10-11) Limited class kicked off the day, with Daxton Bennick and Casey Cochran going head-to-head for the class win early on, but Bennick took control of the race at the mid-way point and never looked back. Cochran maintained a consistent pace in second and Haiden Deegan rounded out the overall podium.

Garrett Marchbanks dominated the Schoolboy 2 (12-17) B/C class after grabbing the Bell Helmets Holeshot Award. Parker Mashburn and Lance Kobusch followed in second and third through the opening lap, while Marchbanks continued setting the pace up front. Kobusch narrowly edged out Mashburn for the runner-up position on the second lap, but by the midway point of the race Pierce Brown sat in second. When the checkered flag flew it was Marchbanks taking the win by over 10 seconds, with Brown and Kobusch following in second and third respectively.

After a rough start to his race week in the Supermini 1 (12-15) class, Nate Thrasher was finally able to put it all together in the Mini Sr. 2 (12-14) race where he ran virtually untouched for the top spot on the box. Kaeden Amerine crossed the line in second, with Maximus Vohland recovering from a first lap tip-over for third.

Once the gate drop signifying the start of Moto 1 for the Junior 25+ class, Paul Perebijnos reached the holeshot line first, but not without a little company from Mike Brown. Brown quickly stole the lead with his aggressive riding skills, with some close competition behind him. At the conclusion of the 10-lap race it was Brown, Nathan Ramsey and Miguel Cordovez filing the podium.

The future stars of motocross took to the track for their first moto at the Loretta Lynn Ranch and produced some of the best racing since the kickoff of the 36th annual event. Drew Adams took home a big win in the 51cc (7-8) Limited class in front of his home state friends and family. Wyatt Thurman prevailed against the hot and humid conditions to take the 51cc (4-6) Limited victory. Roxyn Rinehart topped the charts in the 51cc (4-6) Special Limited division, and Ryder Bloomquist was the 51cc 4-6 Shaft Drive Limited Moto 1 champion.

The 125 (12-16) B/C class vaulted out of the gate, but the racing action quickly subsided where the top three contenders stayed the same distance throughout the race with Jalek Swoll, Mason Gonzales and Carter Biese making up the podium.

Jay Wagner ran his own race in Senior (45+) class and took home the Moto 1 win, with Rene Rodriguez fighting his way to the 250 C Jr. (12-17) Limited victory. Ryder DiFrancesco raced his way to his first moto win of the 2017 event in the 85cc (9-11) Limited Class.
Devon Bates added another 250 C win to the record books, and Mike Brown rode a flawless race in the Senior (40+) division to earn the second moto gold medal. Jazzmyn Canfield continued her dominance where she added a Girls (11-16) class win to his resume.

A rough and rutted track laid the groundwork for a great race in the Open Pro Sport division. Justin Cooper wasted no time returning to the front as he grabbed the holeshot. Jyire Mitchell and Mitchell Falk also fared well in the start, where almost half the class found themselves in a pileup. Falk pushed his way to second early, but Jake Masterpool and Joey Crown maneuvered around Falk on lap five. Crown secured second on the next lap, and set his eyes on Cooper who was an impressive 18 seconds ahead. Crown had to settle for second, with Cooper taking the win for a 1-1 moto tally going into the final moto. A last lap charge resulted in third for Jayce Pennington.

The 250 B gate was full of up-and-coming talent, but Joe Shimoda outshined them all when he earned the Bell Helmets Holeshot Award. Shimoda felt immediate pressure from the competition and tipped over allowing for Levi Newby to slide into the lead. Garrett Marchbanks capitalized on his favorable starting position and took command of the lead on the second lap through the end of the moto. Pierce Brown and Lance Kobusch raced their way to the final podium positions.

The 2017 Rocky Mountain ATV/MC AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship, presented by Lucas Oil, officially got underway August 1, at the historic Loretta Lynn Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee. This year marks the 36th running of the world’s largest and most prestigious amateur motocross championship. Overcast skies graced the facility as the first 22 motos of the week-long event took to the track.

The first official gate drop of the AMA Amateur National was the 450 B Limited division, which kicked off the full day of racing at 7:30 a.m. Zane Merrett jumped out to the early lead grabbing the Bell Helmets Holeshot Award and continued to lead the race from start to finish. In the following moto, Devon Bates made quick work of the field and continued his dominance until the checkered flag waved in the 250 C class.

The Girls (11-16) class brought the heat to an overcast race day. Korie Steede found herself leading the way once the gate fell, but Jazzymn Canfield secured the lead position before conclusion of the first lap. Meanwhile, Jordan Jarvis sat back in ninth. While running in second, Steede bobbled and went down in the mechanics area. Steede was able to quickly rebound, but Katie Benson and Tayler Allred slid by. Jordan Jarvis was working her way through pack quickly and moved in to third behind Allred after Benson washed out. Canfield maintained a steady pace, leading from start to finish, with Allred and Jarvis rounding out the podium.

Seth Hammaker took home the top honors in the ultra-competitive 250 B class. Pierce Brown was an early front runner, but faced a string of bad luck with multiple tip overs. The battle for second tightened up at the halfway point of the race between Joe Shimoda and Derek Drake. The two were wheel-to-wheel when Drake went down, allowing Marchbanks, who was recovering from a 15th place start, to get by. Marchbanks attempted to make a charge on Hammaker, but the Kawasaki rider was too far ahead, ultimately claiming gold.

Open Pro Sport took to the rough and rutted track for their first of three motos. Deemed the elite class of the AMA Amateur National, the up-and-coming stars were eager for the Moto 1 gate drop. By the time they checked through timing for the first time Justin Cooper was leading the way, with Jayce Pennington on his rear wheel. Cooper didn’t look back, winning by a large gap over Enzo Lopes and Mitchell Falk. Although a win by 13 seconds was impressive from Cooper, eyes were also on Jake Masterpool who worked his way from 27th on the first lap, to finish just off the podium in fourth.

The 42 fastest ladies lined up on the gate this afternoon and Hannah Hodges found immediate success earning the holeshot, where she continued leading until the conclusion of the moto. Jazzymn Canfield made the early pass on for second and once the two-lap card was out Tayler Allred had moved into the top-three. Hodges was the first to cross the line, with Canfield and Kennedy Lutz in tow.

Ty Masterpool and Jarrett Frye led the first lap in the Supermini 2 (13-16) class, after Josh Varize jumped out to the early lead earning the Bell Helmets Holeshot Award. Dilan Schwartz attempted to pass Frye when he went down in the infamous “Storyland” part of the track. Stilez Robertson didn’t hesitate as he moved from outside the top-five to third, but Masterpool would end up beating Frye and Robertson to the line for the win.

The 250 A class saw Challen Tennant out in the lead first, with Ramyller Alves and Enzo Lopes behind him at the conclusion of the first lap. Lopes found himself in an unfavorable situation when he was trying to apply pressure to Alves and ended up going down. Meanwhile, Justin Cooper was busy working his way through the tough competition. Cooper reached the runner-up position at the midway point of the race, and settled into a comfortable pace with Tennant taking the win, Cooper in second and Alves taking the last spot on the box.

ABOUT RXR PROTECT
Safety in high-risk sports is always at the heart of the debate! Even though most riders may not yet realize it, I am convinced that the sustainability of these sports will be possible only through the drastic reduction of accidents and their consequences.

To accomplish this, rider protection must be drastically improved by careful design, not guided by markets, marketing, or fashion. We believe to do this we must make an objective analysis of the problem and the expectations of riders (or the parents of young riders)

This is how our work is constantly evolving: every day we collect feedback from our professional athletes and amateur customers in order to improve our products to make them more efficient, practical and comfortable. Not only do we simulate everything today in our laboratory or with 3D computer simulation, we also perform rigorous real-life field testing on the track.

For example, for nearly 10 years now, we have attached particular importance to the follow-up of our professionals, by keeping accident statistics. The return is more than impressive: none of our riders suffered a serious injury! This is the reward of our work and ethics

It does not take long for our field observations and/or feedback from our customers to be taken into account and adapted to our products: my office is in our workshop!

So…

…if you too, you think that safety is actually a condition of performance

…if you too, you reason protection above all

…if you too like to know who designed the equipment that protects you, or that protects your loved ones

…if you too, you are sensitive to Made in France

Ride, ski, surf … RXR Protect
